Betül Özkan (b. 1987, Balıkesir) lives in Istanbul. She completed her undergraduate education in the Department of Fine Arts Education at Selçuk University, and her master's degree in Fine Arts Education at Necmettin Erbakan University.
Özkan’s multidisciplinary practice is built upon an intuitive and direct approach to production guided by the material. Wool, thread, and glue form the core material language of her works. The artist approaches the material not only through its physical properties but also through the cultural connotations, memory, and accumulated experiences it carries.
Working in the fields of sculpture and installation, Özkan explores the concepts of memory, transformation, continuity, rupture, and reconnection through the relationships between material, space, and the body. Repetition and handcraftsmanship are fundamental elements of her production process. Her works take shape within an ongoing dialogue between material and gesture; the inherent character of the material guides the creation process of the artwork.
