Mesut Öztürk, born in 1989 in Krumovgrad, Bulgaria, is an artist based in Istanbul, Turkey.
Trained as an architect, Öztürk brings a structural, sculptural sensibility to his practice. At its core lies an ongoing search for
balance, as he investigates architectural spatialities through sculpture, drawing on the layered architectural heritage of Anatolia
while pushing each piece toward an individual language of its own. Ceramic is the material he works with most, hand-building
each piece, though his sculptures and installations also incorporate found and ready-made objects.
Öztürk studied architecture in Istanbul and went on to complete a master's degree in History, Theory and Criticism in Architecture
at Istanbul Bilgi University, where he later taught part-time. After several years of practicing as an architect and academic, he
shifted his focus fully to his art practice, working from his studio in Istanbul.
His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Istanbul, Paris, Brussels, Basel, Milan, Rotterdam and Cape Town,
including presentations with Gallery Contour in Rotterdam, Galerie La La Lande in Paris, the Odunpazarı Modern Museum in
Eskişehir, Liste Art Fair in Basel. He is represented by Öktem Aykut, Istanbul.
While his practice remains rooted in art, it has also given rise to functional design collections in ceramic, produced under the
name Denk. These design objects have been shown at Paris Design Week, Milano Design Week, Rossana Orlandi in Italy and
Galerie Philia in New York.
