SEVGİ KARAY

Sevgi Karay is a highly successful Turkish sculptor who skillfully works with iron and draws inspiration from nature for her designs. A graduate of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, she has been creating both abstract sculptures and architectural decorative elements for over 30 years.

Primary Material—Iron: She transforms iron—typically a cold, hard material—by bending it into warm, organic, and fluid forms. Inspiration from Nature: Her work draws heavily from birds, marine life, and natural cycles. Philosophical Depth: She explores themes such as mortality and the immortality of the soul; for instance, her piece titled "Confrontation" reflects this philosophy. Public Art: Her works are exhibited in museum collections (such as the Elgiz Museum) and in public spaces like Müze Gazhane. Functional Art: Beyond sculpture, she designs artistic doors, iron railings, and decorative objects for hotels, universities, and private structures.

Workshop and Collaborative Production: She expanded the workshop she founded with her husband, Hayri Karay, transforming it into an interdisciplinary art center named "Atölye20." There, she both creates her own work and provides training to enthusiasts interested in learning the art of iron sculpture.
